The Fox and the grapes (Con cáo & chùm nho)
“One day, a fox became very hungry as he went to tìm kiếm for some food. He searched high & low, but couldn’t find something that he could eat.

"One afternoon, I went khổng lồ a shop to buy some ink. There was only one young shop assistant in it. He was reading a book.

“I am the most powerful!” says the wind.

“I can blow trees to the ground!” brags the wind. “I can push ships across the ocean. I can make hurricanes & tornadoes!”
“Is that right?” replies the sun. “Well, I can melt all the snow on the mountains. I can dry up an entire lake. I can make a sidewalk so hot that it cooks an egg!”
Just then, they see a man walking along the road in his winter jacket.
“Let’s have a contest to see who is more powerful,” says the wind. “Whoever can remove the man’s jacket first wins.”
The sun agrees. The wind goes first. He blows a gust of cold wind at the man.

The man shivers và zips up his jacket. “Brrr! What a cold và windy day!”
It starts to lớn rain. The wind blows even harder and turns the rain into snow.
“Well look at that! It’s snowing!” says the man. “Snow wasn’t in the weather forecast today...”
He pulls his hood over his head.
The wind blows his strongest gust towards the man, but the man’s jacket stays on.
"Hmm. It’s a bit fresh today…” he says. “A winter storm must be coming..." He zips the jacket higher to cover his nose.
“Gah! This is impossible,” says the wind. He stops blowing. “My turn!” says the sun.

Then the sun pulls the clouds apart and gently shines down on the man. Suddenly, it is a beautiful spring day.
“Wow. The weather sure is strange around here!” says the man. He unzips his jacket.

Now there was a certain old Owl who had become very cross & hard to please as she grew older, especially if anything disturbed her daily slumbers. One warm summer afternoon as she dozed away in her den in the old oak tree, a Grasshopper nearby began a joyous but very raspy song. Out popped the old Owl"s head from the opening in the tree that served her both for door và for window.
"Get away from here, sir," she said to the Grasshopper. "Have you no manners? You should at least respect my age and leave me khổng lồ sleep in quiet!"

Đây là câu chuyện về một chú chó phá phách bị người chủ sở hữu đeo xích lại nhằm răn đe. Tiếp đến chú chó vẫn liên tục phá phách để quyến rũ sự chú ý, tuy thế lần này, không thể ai quan tâm đến chú chó ấy nữa. Tuy nhiên, đa số gã tiều phu không giống trong vùng bởi lòng tham của bản thân nhưng chỉ dìm lại được mọi sự trừng phạt của thủy tề và thậm chí là mất cả rìu. The Woodman was in despair. The axe was all he possessed with which to make a living, & he had not money enough khổng lồ buy a new one. As he stood wringing his hands and weeping, the god Mercury suddenly appeared và asked what the trouble was. The Woodman told what had happened, và straightway the kind Mercury dived into the pool.
When he came up again he held a wonderful golden axe.

“No,” answered the honest Woodman, “that is not my axe.”
Mercury laid the golden axe on the bank and sprang back into the pool. This time he brought up an axe of silver, but the Woodman declared again that his axe was just an ordinary one with a wooden handle. Mercury dived down for the third time, and when he came up again he had the very axe that had been lost.
The poor Woodman was very glad that his axe had been found and could not thank the kind god enough. Mercury was greatly pleased with the Woodman’s honesty.
“I admire your honesty,” he said, “and as a reward you may have all three axes, the gold and the silver as well as your own.”
The happy Woodman returned to lớn his trang chủ with his treasures, and soon the story of his good fortune was known khổng lồ everybody in the village. Now there were several Woodmen in the village who believed that they could easily win the same good fortune.

Everyday, a shepherd used khổng lồ take his cows for grazing. He had tied a bell khổng lồ each of the cows he had so that he could know where they were grazing. The best cow had a costly bell tied around her neck.One day, a stranger was going through the pasture. Seeing the costly bell around the cow’s neck, he went to the shepherd và asked if he would sell the bell.
Out of greed, the shepherd sold the bell. But now he could not know where his best cow was grazing.On getting an opportunity, the stranger stole the cow. Thus, the shepherd lost his best cow just because of his greed.
